T.O.V.A. Testing
at Sweet Maple Counseling
A Research-Backed Tool for Understanding Attention & Focus
Sweet Maple Counseling is proud to offer T.O.V.A. (Test of Variables of Attention) testing, one of the most reliable objective measures used to assess attention deficits, including ADHD. Whether you or your child are experiencing difficulties with focus, impulse control, or hyperactivity, TOVA testing can provide clear, research-backed insights to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
What is T.O.V.A. testing?
TOVA is a computerized, non-invasive neuropsychological assessment designed to measure key variables related to attention and impulse control. It evaluates how well an individual responds to visual or auditory stimuli, helping clinicians determine if attention-related difficulties are present.
At Sweet Maple Counseling, we offer both:
✔ TOVA Visual Test – Measures attention response to visual stimuli.
✔ TOVA Auditory Test – Measures attention response to auditory stimuli.
These tests are particularly effective in identifying ADHD and other attention-related concerns in children, teens, and adults.
Who is it for?
TOVA testing is beneficial for children (ages 6+), teens, and adults who may be experiencing attention-related challenges. It is especially recommended for:
✔ Individuals suspected of having ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder)
✔ Those struggling with focus, impulsivity, or inattention at school, work, or home
✔ Individuals who need an objective assessment to complement other evaluations
✔ Parents seeking clarity and direction for their child’s attention concerns
✔ Adults who struggled with attention since childhood but were never formally assessed
TOVA is not a standalone diagnostic tool but is an essential piece of the puzzle in assessing ADHD and executive functioning challenges.
If you or your child are experiencing any of the following, TOVA testing may help provide valuable insight:
✔ Difficulty sustaining attention on tasks or conversations
✔ Frequent distractibility and trouble staying focused
✔ Impulsivity, such as interrupting or acting without thinking
✔ Forgetfulness in daily activities (losing things, missing deadlines, etc.)
✔ Restlessness or an inability to sit still for extended periods
✔ Struggling with organization, time management, or task completion
✔ Daydreaming or zoning out frequently
✔ Frequent mistakes or careless errors in work or school assignments
